Raffle Basics
All participants will receive one raffle ticket free with registration. Additional tickets can be purchased on Saturday at packet pick-up or on race day for $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. The drawing will be held following the awards ceremony. You must be present to win. If you think you will still be on the course at that point, feel free to write the name of a friend or family member on the back of your ticket(s) along with your own name, and give them the stub(s); they can claim your prize for you.
The Quilt: An AW5M Tradition
For many years, the raffle of a quilt handmade by a local runner was what set AW5M apart. Those quilts evoked the things we like to think our little race is all about: Care, comfort, and community; old-fashioned practicality; a personal touch. But eventually there came a point at which our quilter could not sew anymore, and the tradition sunset into a legend— or so it seemed. Like many longtime AW5M fans, SCTC's Laura Chiorello fondly remembered the raffle quilts, and Laura can sew. In 2013, she approached the race director and offered to make another quilt for the AW5M raffle, and the tradition was reborn! Laura's first quilt used batik fabric to evoke the elevation profile of the AW5M course; her second quilt was designed to match the cranberry-colored 2014 race shirts.
